New Castle County Police have arrested two male subjects and charged them with weapon and drug offenses after they were found in possession of a “sawed-off shotgun” and a zip lock bag that contained marijuana.

On Wednesday night, August 2, at 7:59 p.m., County Police responded to area of Cymbal Court and South Merriment Drive in the community of Olde Mill Village Townhouses for a report of two male subjects who were sitting in a blue colored vehicle and were in possession of a red bag that contained a firearm. While officers were en route, they learned that one of the suspects who was described as a black male wearing a white T-shirt with a blue and red baseball cap, was now walking in the area.  

When Officer Nicholas Heitzmann approached the area, he observed the subject matching the suspect description crossing Smalleys Dam Road. Officer Heitzmann stopped the subject, who at the time seemed nervous and was evasive in answering questions. A computer inquiry revealed that the subject was wanted by the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas.  

It was later revealed that the subject gave the officer a false name and his true identity was that of Robert Ervin.   It was then learned that Ervin also had a capias that was issued by the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and an additional three outstanding capiases that had been issued by New Castle County Family Court.

Police then contacted the second subject who was described as being bald, wearing a white T-shirt and was sitting in the driver seat of a blue vehicle. Officers made contact with the subject, later identified as Corey Johnson, as he was sitting in the vehicle that was parked in the unit block of South Merriment Drive. As they approached the car, officers smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and noticed a red bag inside.

A search warrant was then executed for the vehicle and during the search, officers found a 12 gauge “sawed-off shotgun” inside the red bag as well as 22.71 grams of marijuana, a box of zip lock baggies, a digital scale and $350 of suspected drug money. Both subjects were apprehended and the money and vehicle were seized.
